GameDay Goes to Knoxville: Texas at Tennessee Anchors Week 4 After Oxford

Week 4 has a Saturday noon. Texas visits Tennessee on Saturday, Sept. 26, at noon ET on ABC in Knoxville. ESPN's College GameDay is in Knoxville for that Saturday. The show starts on the Ayres Hall lawn at 9 a.m. ET. It moves inside Neyland Stadium at 11 a.m. Ole Miss already beat LSU 32-24. That final is a Week 3 fact. It is not this column's hook.

Gameday Signal is not rewriting Monday's BSN file on Oxford. Oxford has a score. Trinidad Chambliss ran 14 yards with 6:14 left. J.T. Lindsey added the two-point rush. Ole Miss is 3-0. LSU is 2-1. The show that sat on The Grove Stage last Saturday is now assigned to Ayres Hall.

The object this week is not a poll. The object is one posted window and one posted show. Saturday in Knoxville. 9 a.m. ET for the lawn. 11 a.m. ET for the stadium. Noon ET for the game.

Knoxville Is the Saturday Anchor

Texas is 3-0. The Longhorns beat UTSA 30-6 on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. Arch Manning threw scoring passes of 24 and 3 yards to Cam Coleman. Gianni Spetic made a 52-yard field goal. He later made one from 34 and one from 23. Derrek Cooper scored from 1 yard in the fourth. Manning finished 16 of 32 for 161 yards and left late once the game was in hand. Attendance was 103,753. That home Saturday is the last posted Texas number before the trip to Knoxville.

Tennessee is 3-0. The Volunteers beat Kennesaw State 42-9 on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Neyland Stadium. Faizon Brandon threw for 178 yards and one touchdown and ran for another. Daune Morris ran for 116 yards and a touchdown. The long run was 42 yards. That is the last posted Tennessee number before the Longhorns walk in.

Both clubs are opening Southeastern Conference play in the same building. Texas is leaving home for the first time this season. Tennessee is staying in the building where it just posted 42-9. ABC has the game. Kickoff is noon ET, which is 11 a.m. CT. This desk will not invent a Saturday final. The game is the first FBS snap of the week this column will mark as the object.

What GameDay Actually Is on This Saturday

Tennessee announced the show on Sunday, Sept. 20. The first two hours sit on the Ayres Hall lawn. The last hour sits inside Neyland Stadium. Fans were told to arrive early for the lawn. The university called it the 13th GameDay visit to Knoxville. It called the game the program's 29th featured appearance. Saturday is also listed as Neyland's 30th straight sellout. Checker Neyland is the posted seating color instruction. Those are civic facts. They are not a brand speech.

The Texas-Tennessee series has three prior meetings. All three were at the Cotton Bowl. The last one was 1969. Texas holds a 2-1 edge in that short history. Tennessee's last win in the series was 20-14 in 1951. Those are posted history notes. They are not a Saturday forecast.

GameDay was in Austin on Sept. 12 for Texas and Ohio State. It was in Oxford on Sept. 19 for LSU and Ole Miss. Knoxville is the next campus Saturday. That travel list is a fact. It is not a theory about which building is louder.

Oxford Is Closed. It Still Explains Why This Week Has a Show.

Ole Miss led 24-7 at the half and won 32-24. Chambliss passed for 363 yards and two scores. He ran for the last one after LSU had tied it at 24. Kewan Lacy scored from 5 yards and later left with a left shoulder injury. Jaylon Braxton intercepted LSU on fourth-and-goal from the 6 with 1:03 left. Attendance was 70,033.

That final is why Week 4 does not open with Oxford as a preview. Last week's GDS Friday file treated Oxford as the Saturday object. This week's Friday file treats Oxford as a closed object. The national show does not stay in the Grove to watch a road Saturday. It moves to the next ranked noon the sport already circled.

Lane Kiffin's return is now a posted loss. Pete Golding's home club is 3-0. Those coaching facts belong to Week 3. They do not belong in the first sentence of a Knoxville file. The first sentence of this file is noon ET at Neyland.

Austin Is Closed Too. Texas Still Travels With the No. 1.

Texas beat Ohio State 24-23 on Sept. 12. Hollywood Smothers scored from 1 yard with 25 seconds left. That final put Texas at No. 1 on the boards that followed it. Texas then beat UTSA 30-6. The second Saturday was not a ranked night. It was a home night that kept the Longhorns unbeaten before the trip.

Manning's UTSA box was quieter than the Ohio State fourth quarter. He took hits. He left with about six minutes left. The Longhorns' own recap said they held UTSA to 143 total yards and no touchdown. That is the last posted Texas defensive number. It travels to Knoxville as a fact. It does not travel as a prediction.

Texas hosts nobody this Saturday. The Longhorns go to Neyland. Hold that apart from last week's home Saturday. A reader who wants Texas at home is a week late. A reader who wants Texas on the road is on time.

The Other Posted Finals That Feed This Week

Miami beat Wake Forest 33-20 on Friday, Sept. 18. Darian Mensah completed 30 of 34 for 220 yards and three scores. Gio Lopez threw for 312 yards and three scores in the loss. That Friday final is a Week 3 fact. It does not travel to Knoxville. It sits on the Week 3 board so Saturday has a real week behind it.

The Signal is not building a national theory out of those scores. It is listing them so noon ET has a real week behind it. Texas 30-6 is the visiting club's last number. Tennessee 42-9 is the home club's last number. Ole Miss 32-24 is the reason the show left Oxford. Miami 33-20 is the Friday that opened the week the show is leaving.

Other Week 4 windows already have names. Oklahoma at Georgia. LSU at Texas A&M. Oregon at USC. This desk will treat those as calendar pointers. It will not invent those scores. Saturday's object is still Knoxville.

The Two 3-0 Clubs Arrive on Different Paths

Texas needed a fourth-quarter comeback against Ohio State and a home Saturday against UTSA. The first game was 24-23. The second was 30-6. The first was a ranked night. The second was a non-conference night in the same Austin building. Manning threw two early scores to Coleman in the second one and then the night got quieter.

Tennessee needed a home Saturday against Kennesaw State after whatever the club posted in the first two weeks. This file will not invent those earlier boxes. It will file 42-9. Brandon threw and ran for scores. Morris ran for 116. Josh Heupel said the club had gotten better each week. That is a posted quote. It is not a Saturday forecast.

Those paths meet at noon ET. They do not meet on Friday. Friday on this file is for pointing at Saturday. A reader who treats Friday as a commercial for noise is reading the week out of order. Friday is the day the clocks get written down.

What This Friday File Will Not Do

It will not invent a Texas-Tennessee score. It will not invent an Oklahoma-Georgia score. It will not invent an LSU-Texas A&M score. It will not reuse last week's Oxford preview as if Vaught-Hemingway had not been played. Oxford was played. Ole Miss took it.

It will not treat Kiffin's return as the lead. That return is a Week 3 coaching fact with a 32-24 attached. Golding is still the Ole Miss coach. The Rebels are 3-0. The Tigers are 2-1. Those sentences belong in a closed file.

Gameday Signal's job on a Friday is to keep the Knoxville clocks honest. Ayres Hall is 9 a.m. ET. Neyland is 11 a.m. ET for the last hour of the show. Texas at Tennessee is noon ET on ABC. Ole Miss already beat LSU 32-24. That is the week in the order the sport actually posted it.

Texas left Austin at 3-0. Tennessee stayed in Knoxville at 3-0. The lawn sits on the hill next to the stadium. The last hour of the show sits in the stadium. The kick sits at noon. After Oxford 32-24. That is Week 4.

If you want the noise, the lawn will be loud at sunrise. If you want the signal, write the times down. Saturday 9 a.m. ET on the Ayres lawn is first. Saturday 11 a.m. ET inside Neyland is next. Saturday noon ET for Texas at Tennessee is the day. After Ole Miss 32-24. That is the week.
