The leaguewide veteran reporting deadline of July 28 means that by the end of next week, every team in the league will be in pads. That window between now and the first preseason snap is where sharp futures plays are made.
The key principle entering camp: the market prices teams on what we know from the offseason. Camp reveals what we don’t know — depth chart changes, injuries, player development, scheme installations. Quarterback Situations Worth Tracking
The Jacoby Brissett holdout in Arizona is one of the most under-discussed situations of the offseason. Brissett is seeking a new contract and has skipped OTAs — but mandatory minicamp attendance is different. If he shows up to camp without a deal, that tells you something about leverage. If he doesn’t, the Cardinals are suddenly running their offense with a quarterback whose commitment is uncertain heading into a season where they used the #3 pick on Jeremiyah Love. That creates a player who is locked in financially but potentially disengaged — or a receiver motivated to play his way into a massive long-term deal. Both outcomes exist. The under on Dallas passing yards has value if Pickens coasts. The over has value if he plays like a man auditioning for $30M per year.
The Injury Variable Nobody Is Pricing In
Detroit’s Kendrick Law tore his ACL during OTAs — a fifth-round pick who won’t factor into the season. But the broader lesson heading into camp is that the injury market is the most mispriced market in early-camp futures. Every ACL, every high-ankle sprain reported in the first two weeks of camp will ripple through win total lines by 0.5 to 1 game. The teams with thin depth at skill positions — particularly offensive line — are the most vulnerable.
Cincinnati added Dexter Lawrence II via trade along with Jonathan Allen and Boye Mafe on the edge. On paper, the Bengals’ defense looks transformed. The question camp will answer: does that unit communicate and fit together quickly enough to be effective in September, or does it take until October?
